Matariki
this week we are learning about
Matariki.
Matariki is a time to spend with friends and family and also a time to celebrate the māori New Year.
To enjoy the yummy favour and since songs and play games.
matariki comes out around June and July once June July go past it's a signal for the farmers so they know it's time for their crops to be pulled out of the ground.
How many stars are there in matariki?
Maori astronomer named Dr Rangi Matamua studied stars for about 30 years and discovered that there are nine 9 stars in matariki Not sevan 7.

Matariki Is that signifies reflection, and hope for our connection to the environment and the gathering of the people. Matariki is also connected to the health and wellbeing of people.

Is the star connected to those that have passed on
Waiti
Is connected with all fresh water bodies and the food sources that are sustained by those waters.
Waitā
Is associated with the ocean and food sources within it.
Waipuna-ā-Rangi Is connected with the rain
Tupuārangi
Is the star connected with everything that grows up in the trees: fruits, berries birds.
Ururangi
Is the star connected with the winds.
Hiwa-i-te-Rangi
Is the star connected with granting our wishes, and realising our aspirations for the coming year.

Pentecost
